Since we will spend tomorrow driving to some Tuscan hill towns and will fly out Sunday for Paris, today was our last day in Florence.
Mark and I felt this part of our trip slipping away from us as we approached and crossed the Ponte Vecchio for the last time.
We thought it fitting to stop for a bite and a last gelato at our favorite Florentine Gellateria (one that we discovered last time we were in Florence) at the Oltarno end of the old bridge/Ponte Vecchio.
You see us enjoying a favorite spot and a favorite treat despite temperatures that never climbed out of the mid-forties (F) today.
Bad news...We climbed the hill to our parking spot on the ridge above the Arno River for the last time, and drove to the Aeroporto to check on Greg and Linda's luggage. Good news...their baggagio was there and fully restored to them! This put us all in a most jubilant mood despite having navigated the 1.5 hours in Friday afternoon traffic around Florence to reach the airport. Mark is totally my Italian-driving and parallel parking hero. He is handling the heavy traffic, 3 and 4 lane roundabouts, Vespas that use the space between the lanes, and sometimes strange and contradictory directions from the GPS with aplomb.
That's a beautiful photo of you and Linda and the Old Bridge. I'm proud of Dad for his skillful driving. What flavor of Gelato did you get?
